We love this because...

Both a homage to the traditions of Cape Cabernet winemaking and a unique approach to sourcing grapes this bottle is as interesting in concept as it is delicious in execution. Stuffed to bursting with delicious crunchy blackcurrant and blackberry fruit this is a delicious, structured example of what the Cape can achieve with this variety.

The wine

How do you source top quality Cabernet in an upmarket region like Helderberg without a big budget for consultants? Well, Pieter devised an ingenious answer to this conundrum – let other people with bigger budgets hire the best vineyards consultants (the White Gloves in Pieter’s terminology) and then buy up the grapes immediately next door to the sites they took - hence Confessions of a White Glove Chaser.

Whilst this wine started out as 100% pure Cabernet Sauvignon it has progressed over the three vintages Pieter has made it to embrace a Cape tradition in Cabernet blends in the form of a good chunk of Cinsault alongside small amounts of Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Pieter also choses to give the grapes a long maceration with a month on the skins post ferment prior to aging the wine without any new oak influence. These two factors in combination create a great concentration of flavour and excellent structure from the skin tannins without any overtly oaky flavour – superb now but will age comfortably for 8-10 years.

The producer
